Fall 2019 – Four Years After

I started writing this post, well only the title, a few months ago, when it was still fall of 2019.  As I now sit along the Jekyll Island coast, I think that I can settle down and write some words about the last few months.

On September 1, 2019 I celebrated four years since my retirement.  Four years. Wow!  After that much time, I can seriously conclude that it was time to go and I truly do not miss the work.  Twenty-eight years was long enough.

Late summer and fall of 2019 had a fairly predictable pattern – Pennsylvania cabin, home for appointments and laundry, and trips to Vermont.  We spent a little extra time at home in August so that I could have some dental work completed.  Labor Day found us at our daughter’s house for a few days, followed by two weeks on Cape Cod.  We were able to spend an afternoon with my brother and his wife, walking Nauset Beach in the Cape Cod National Seashore.  That trip continued as we spent some time in Bar Harbor, Maine in early October.  Acadia National Park is a lovely place.  My hubby had never been to Maine, so he can now check that off of the list of states that we have spent time.  Our lists of U. S. states are the same now.  There are only two states we have not been to — North Dakota and Hawaii.  We are going to do ND next summer on our way to Yellowstone National Park.  That will leave only Hawaii…

After Maine and the wonderful food and beautiful landscape, we spent a couple of months at home and cabin, with only one exception – 4 days at the end of October.  We decided to close down Alexandria Bay for the season.  Staying at the same resort, we took the next to the last Two Nation Boat Tour of the season.  It was cold, but beautiful.  We ate at an interesting place that was once an aquarium store but then made into a restaurant (they left the tanks and fish).  Great fun!

Daughter and her fam came for Thanksgiving and we went to their house for an early Christmas, before we headed south.  Unfortunately, I left my camera in Vermont, so only phone pics for the blog until April or May.

So four years after……could it get any better?
